Part-Time Faculty: PNO 120-726.3: Applied Music - Piano Lessons (Fall26 & Spr27)

Part-time instructor position teaching private piano lessons during the Fall and Spring semesters of the 2026-27 academic year.

About the Role

The Setnor School of Music within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks an artist/part-time instructor to provide private instruction in classical piano performance. Lessons will cover techniques, styles, music reading, pedagogy, and ensemble performance skills, primarily for music education majors and non-majors.

Responsibilities

• Conduct weekly private piano lessons during the Fall and Spring semesters.
• Set up and manage lesson schedules.
• Develop and update a class syllabus.
• Prepare and assign student coursework.
• Maintain regularly scheduled office hours.
• Tailor instruction to course competencies and student performance levels.
• Attend all designated class periods.
• Participate in end-of-semester juries as needed.
• Assist in spring audition days, including reviewing online music audition materials for prospective students.
• Submit mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to university regulations.
• Grade student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
• Provide departmentally sanctioned student evaluations.
• Build positive rapport with students and faculty.
• Support student performances at music events where possible.

Requirements

• Minimum of a master’s degree in music or equivalent experience (preferred).
• Experience teaching piano at the collegiate level.
• Professional performance credentials.
• Strong attention to detail and knowledge of course content.
• Demonstrated pedagogical ability and the capacity to relate well in classroom and one-on-one settings with college-level students.

Preference will be given to applicants who could potentially fulfill multiple positions within the Setnor School of Music.
