Part-Time Faculty: VOC110-516.13: Applied Music-Jazz/Commercial Music Voice Lessons (Fa26 &Spr27)

About the role

The Setnor School of Music within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks a Part-Time Instructor to teach Jazz/Commercial Voice Lessons during the Fall and Spring semesters, 2026-27.

Qualifications

• A minimum of a master’s degree in music (jazz or commercial voice performance or equivalent experience preferred).
• Experience teaching studio voice at the collegiate level.
• Jazz/Commercial Music/Musical Theater Performance credentials.
• Significant piano skills required including the ability to accompany vocal students on piano (with swing, Latin, RnB, and other modern feels) when delivering instruction.

• Knowledge of course content.
• Demonstrated pedagogical ability.
• Ability to relate well in a classroom and one-on-one environment with college-level students.

Responsibilities

• Being present and instructing weekly lessons during Fall and Spring semesters.
• Setting up lesson schedule.
• Attending jazz faculty orientation meeting, and jazz faculty meetings throughout the semester (approximately 3 per semester).
• Collaborating to build and maintain the jazz/commercial voice studio, including participation in Setnor School of Music recruitment events.
• Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
• Preparing student assignments.
• Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
• Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
• Meting all designated class periods.
• Participating in end-of-semester juries.
• Participating in fall/spring audition days.
• Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
• Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
• Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
• Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
• Supporting student performances at major jazz & commercial music events where possible.
• If you are unable to meet your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute.
• You must also notify the department chair of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.
