About the Role

Part-Time Instructor position to teach Piano Class I for Music Theater Majors, a one-credit course, during the Fall and Spring semesters of the 2026-27 academic year. This course focuses on fundamentals of piano instruction for Department of Drama Musical Theater majors.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct weekly class meetings during Fall and Spring semesters: Mondays and Wednesdays, 2:15 PM – 3:10 PM.
  • Develop and/or update a class syllabus.
  • Prepare lectures, projects, or other student assignments.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Present instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
  • Meet all designated class periods.
  • Submit completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to university regulations.
  • Grade student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
  • Build a positive rapport with students and other faculty.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Master of Music (preferred), or demonstrable equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrated successful college-level teaching experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience teaching a similar class to a comparable cohort of students is strongly preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, knowledge of course content, and demonstrated pedagogical ability.
  • Ability to relate well in a classroom and one-on-one environment with college-level students.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who are able to fulfill multiple positions within the Setnor School of Music.
