Part-Time Faculty: MUE 615.1: Introduction to Research in Music (Fall 2026)

Part-Time Instructor position to teach MUE 615, a three-credit-hour course during the Fall semester 2026. This course familiarizes students with methods and techniques required for in-depth exploration of music literature and research studies, including bibliographical materials and appropriate writing styles.

Responsibilities

• Instruct weekly class meetings during Fall semester: Tuesdays/Thursdays 5:00 PM – 6:20 PM
• Update the class syllabus
• Prepare lectures, projects, or other student assignments
• Maintain regularly scheduled office hours
• Present instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course
• Meet all designated class periods
• Submit completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to university regulations
• Grade student assignments and exams in a timely manner
• Provide departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations
• Build a positive rapport with students and other faculty

Requirements

• Doctorate degree in music or music history
• Evidence of exceptional scholarly writing skills, with ability to edit and assist in the preparation of student work
• Experience teaching at the collegiate level (preferred)
• Experience teaching non-native speaking students (preferred)
• Strong attention to detail and knowledge of course content
• Demonstrated pedagogical ability
• Ability to relate well in a classroom and one-on-one environment with college-level students

Preference will be given to applicants who are able to fulfill multiple positions within the Setnor School of Music.
