About the role

The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics at Syracuse University is seeking a Part-time Instructor to teach one 3-credit section of LIN 374/674 in the fall 2026 semester, which begins on August 24, 2026 (appointment begins on August 17, 2026).

Responsibilities

  • Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
  • Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
  • Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours of two hours per week.
  • Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the class.
  • Maintaining all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet with your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute. You must also notify the department chair or their designated contact of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.
  • Working with the academic unit to maintain student learning outcomes.
  • Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
  • Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
  • Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
  • Completing all other course related duties as outlined by your department’s policies for part-time instructors.
  • BUILDING A POSITIVE RAPPORT WITH THE STUDENTS AND FACULTY.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Linguistics or related field required.
  • Experience in university-level teaching preferred.
