About the Role

The Interior Design department at Pratt Institute invites applications for part-time teaching faculty positions for the 2025/2026 academic year, beginning Fall 2026. The BFA and MFA Interior Design programs prepare students to engage in critical inquiry of occupied space through theoretical and applied research, establishing them as innovators and leaders in the field. The curriculum addresses emerging technologies, interdisciplinary collaboration, sustainable practices, and issues of ethical and social responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Teach part-time courses in the BFA and MFA Interior Design programs, focusing on areas such as emerging technologies, sustainable design systems, or interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Foster innovation and leadership in interior design practice.
  • Utilize intercultural competence and strong interpersonal skills to engage with a diverse student body.
  • Promote inclusive learning environments that address ethical and social responsibility in the built environment.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Interior Design, Architecture, related fields, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Previous post-secondary teaching experience is preferred but not required.

Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated intercultural competence.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

Areas of Expertise

  • Emerging technologies in construction and the built environment.
  • Sustainable design systems, processes, and materials.
  • Color and lighting in design.
  • Design studios (introductory, practice-based, and theoretical).
  • Interdisciplinary and collaborative design.
  • Community engagement and social justice in design.
  • History, theory, and research in interior design.
  • Digital and analog 2D/3D representation.
  • Other specialized fields relevant to the department.

Pay

Salary is competitive and ranges from $1,800 to $2,214 per contact hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

  • Link to a portfolio of your work (and student work if you have prior teaching experience).
  • Professional references (three to five, including at least two current or former managers/supervisors) will be requested later in the interview process.

Note: Pratt Institute is currently unable to support new H-1B visas for candidates residing outside the United States.
