Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Prepare and organize instructional materials, including readings, activities, assignments, and digital content.
- Deliver high-quality instruction aligned with departmental curriculum, learning objectives, and assessment practices.
- Facilitate engaged, inclusive classroom discussions on course topics such as identity, culture, gender, race, sexuality, and power.
- Maintain a learning environment that supports student success, critical thinking, and academic growth.
- Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff in a timely and professional manner.
- Submit attendance records, grades, and other required documentation by established deadlines.
- Refer students to AACC support services as needed (tutoring, advising, disability support, etc.).
- Collaborate with the Academic Chair to ensure course competencies and departmental expectations are met.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in the discipline being taught (Gender & Sexuality Studies, African American Studies, American Studies, or a closely related field).
- Demonstrated academic or professional background in at least one of the following: Gender & Sexuality Studies, African American Studies, American Studies/Interdisciplinary Studies.
- Ability to facilitate respectful, inclusive discussions on complex and sensitive topics.
- Basic technology proficiency, including use of Canvas, email, and digital instructional tools.
- Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Teaching experience at the college or university level (online and/or in person).
- Experience working with diverse student populations and applying equity-minded instructional practices.
- Availability for daytime, face-to-face instructional formats.
