About the Role
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Northern Kentucky University is seeking to create a database of potential part-time instructors qualified to teach courses in one or more of the following disciplines. While expertise in all areas is welcome, the most common needs are:
- General chemistry sequence (CHE 120, CHE 120L, CHE 121, CHE 121L)
- Physiological chemistry (CHE 115, CHE 115L)
- Organic chemistry laboratory (CHE 310L, CHE 311L)
Responsibilities
- Teach a two or three-contact hour course during scheduled times.
- Create a syllabus with a timeline of classes for students.
- Provide office hours (virtual or face-to-face) to meet with students outside of class.
- Manage course content for students through Canvas.
- Submit mid-term and final grades via the MyNKU online grading system.
- Under the direction of the Academic Department Chair and in consultation with the course coordinator:
- Develop and manage syllabus materials, including selecting and compiling tests, assignments, and/or online discussion exercises to measure performance relative to standardized learning objectives.
- Coordinate courseware and curriculum, including reviewing textbook and other courseware changes with the academic department chair and full-time faculty.
- Facilitate class instruction in accordance with learning objectives and session plan outlines.
- Administer evaluations of student performance based on course deliverables and rubrics.
Requirements
- Minimum of a Master’s Degree or equivalent in Chemistry or a closely related discipline.
