About the role
The Home for Little Wanderers is seeking a Part-Time Residential Counselor for their Therapeutic After School Program (TASP) in Roslindale, MA. The program provides clinical services to youth aged 12 to 16 who have experienced abuse, neglect, trauma, or a disrupted family life.
Responsibilities
- Provide a safe and secure environment for clients
- Counsel, observe, and provide behavioral training, outreach support, advocacy, and treatment to children and their families
- Ensure individuals served are supported to lead emotionally and physically healthy lifestyles
- Plan and participate in activities with clients/students on an individual and small group level
- Teach age-appropriate life skills and social skills through modeling, counseling, and other techniques
- Communicate through written and verbal means with other program staff
- Complete assigned paperwork including time sheets, level cards, goal/level tracking, incident reports, and 51A’s
- Attend trainings and participate in supervision meetings
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year childcare experience in a residential setting with similar population of children
- Computer literate, including Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer
- Driving requirements may apply if required to transport clients
Skills
- Knowledge of program routines and structure
- Ability to foster healthy, appropriate relationships with clients
- Understanding of level system (cards, behavior contracts, etc.)
- Supervision and coordination of activities of daily living for students
- First Aid knowledge
- Ability to provide group and individual behavior support and intervention
- Experience with TCI appropriate physical restraint
- Communication skills
- Time management and organization skills
