About the role
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is seeking a Part-Time Communication Specialist I to assist in managing the department’s social media, create marketing content, and respond to citizen inquiries. This role supports internal and external communications, including promotional materials like brochures, inserts, and newsletters. The successful candidate will have experience in social media management and a strong understanding of communication trends and best practices.
This part-time position works up to 29 hours per week on a flexible schedule, which may include weekdays, evenings, and weekends based on business needs. By applying, you may also be considered for similar roles at other Park and Recreation locations if they become available.
Responsibilities
- Manage internal and external communications as assigned.
- Perform administrative activities for the public information office, such as preparing mailings, compiling informational packets, setting up meeting rooms, delivering materials, and creating directional signs.
- Prepare, edit, and design publications and brochures; coordinate graphics, layout, photography, and print production.
- Research, gather, and evaluate data for communication planning; recommend opportunities and technologies aligned with departmental goals.
- Serve as a department liaison, providing communications support, assisting with media inquiries, and coordinating responses to information requests.
- Prepare and coordinate content for news releases, announcements, newsletters, and presentations; edit departmental communications and correspondence.
- Provide website support focused on community outreach, audience engagement, and social media communications across appropriate platforms.
- Develop and implement processes to encourage meaningful citizen engagement.
- Coordinate event and special project support, including promotional items and communications.
- Research, order, and maintain promotional materials, files, data, logs, reports, schedules, and digital archives.
Requirements
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in public relations, communications, or a related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, or a directly related field (or a combination of relevant education and experience).
- Valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges may be required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant computer applications.

Pay
$27.57/hr - $36.19/hr
Schedule
