Part-Time Campus Safety Officer

About the Role

Reporting to the Director of Campus Safety, Campus Safety Officers are the main workforce of the Occidental Campus Safety Department and perform a wide variety of campus safety functions. This is a part-time, non-exempt position for up to 28 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Perform high visibility vehicle and foot patrols on campus, at adjacent rental homes, and at sorority/fraternity houses to discourage and apprehend lawbreakers, and to deter crime. (35%)
• Enforce parking and vehicle permit regulations. (Essential)
• Respond to requests for assistance, emergency calls, fire alarms, and intrusion alarms on campus and at rental homes. (25%)
• Prepare incident reports for supervisory review, write work requests to correct deficiencies, and maintain a daily log of shift activities. (25%)
• Provide safety escorts on and off campus, grant access to college buildings and facilities to authorized persons, and maintain a presence at college-sponsored events on and off campus. (15%)

Requirements

• High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• One year of security experience and/or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Valid California BSIS guard card, first aid, and CPR certification.
• Valid California driver’s license (with a clean driving record) and ability to qualify as an Occidental College designated driver.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally, in writing, or electronically, including via telephone, two-way radio, and electronic media.
• Ability to work any shift, day or night.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Drive/Forms, or equivalent productivity programs.
• Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented, anticipate and prevent potential problems, and handle a wide variety of tasks efficiently.
• Strong commitment to quality work, justice, equity, inclusion, and diversity.
• Effective interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to collaborate across diverse groups and manage multiple priorities.
• Ability to work independently, self-motivate, and adapt to high-volume, confidential environments.
• Successful completion of a comprehensive background/criminal history/Megan’s Law check.

Preferred Qualifications

• Successful completion of the Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) 832 P.C. and/or 832.2 P.C. Course(s), SB390 course, AB1626 course, or police academy training.
• Experience working in safety/security on a college or university campus.

Pay

$21.00 per hour. This position is not eligible for benefits.
