Part-Time Campus Safety Officer
About the role
The Office of Campus Safety at Colgate University is responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment for students, staff, faculty, and visitors. This position provides an opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive setting.
Responsibilities
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of university and department policies and procedures.
- Enforce the Student Code of Conduct and university policies.
- Receive emergency and non-emergency calls; determine priority and dispatch personnel accordingly.
- Cookout incident response with 911 dispatch and outside agencies.
- Conduct timely case investigations and write detailed case reports.
- Patrol campus for suspicious behavior, safety hazards, and public assistance opportunities.
- Perform building tours, lock-ups, and unlocks.
- Provide vehicular and pedestrian traffic control and assist motorists with disabled vehicles.
- Enforce university parking regulations and issue citations.
- Provide basic first aid and lay first responder emergency medical care.
- Participate in department community outreach and safety education programs.
Requirements
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to multitask in stressful environments.
- Must hold and maintain a valid New York State driver’s license and meet and maintain the requirements of the University’s Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Use Policy.
- Able to obtain and maintain a valid New York State (DCJS) security guard license.
- May be required to complete specialized training, as designated.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate’s degree in criminal justice or related field preferred.
Skills
Knowledge of local and state laws.
Benefits
This position has been designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), in accordance with the federal statutory requirements of the Jeanne Clery Act. CSAs are required to and responsible for reporting allegations of crimes they receive from students and employees to the Campus Safety Department.
Pay
$19.30 per hour
Schedule
The shift is expected to be at a minimum of 36 hours per week but not to exceed 37.5 hours per week. Must be willing to work a combination of the following available shifts: Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday from 6 p.m. – 6 a.m., Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 6 p.m. – 6 a.m.
