About the role
This position provides limited para-professional social services to clients and their families, focusing on prenatal and breastfeeding support for WIC participants.
Responsibilities
- Facilitates prenatal breastfeeding classes alongside Certified Peer Counselors (CPA).
- Provides individual breastfeeding education in the WIC clinic as needed.
- Offers basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers, including overcoming common barriers and starting breastfeeding successfully.
- Documents peer counselor contacts in the database system.
- Attends and participates in monthly staff meetings and breastfeeding conferences/workshops.
- Assists with special projects and duties as assigned.
- Manages multiple duties simultaneously, including providing support outside of usual 8 to 5 working hours.
Requirements
- Must have a current or former WIC ID number.
- Must have breastfed one or more of your children for at least six months.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English.
- Must have reliable transportation and basic computer skills.
- Must be able to assist mothers with breastfeeding in assigned WIC clinics.
- Must demonstrate excellent customer service and oral communication skills.
Qualifications
- Experience in public health preferred.
- Basic computer skills required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, data entry).
- Strong desire to help other mothers enjoy a positive breastfeeding experience.
