About the role

This position provides limited para-professional social services to clients and their families, focusing on prenatal and breastfeeding support for WIC participants.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates prenatal breastfeeding classes alongside Certified Peer Counselors (CPA).
  • Provides individual breastfeeding education in the WIC clinic as needed.
  • Offers basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers, including overcoming common barriers and starting breastfeeding successfully.
  • Documents peer counselor contacts in the database system.
  • Attends and participates in monthly staff meetings and breastfeeding conferences/workshops.
  • Assists with special projects and duties as assigned.
  • Manages multiple duties simultaneously, including providing support outside of usual 8 to 5 working hours.

Requirements

  • Must have a current or former WIC ID number.
  • Must have breastfed one or more of your children for at least six months.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Must have reliable transportation and basic computer skills.
  • Must be able to assist mothers with breastfeeding in assigned WIC clinics.
  • Must demonstrate excellent customer service and oral communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Experience in public health preferred.
  • Basic computer skills required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, data entry).
  • Strong desire to help other mothers enjoy a positive breastfeeding experience.
