About the role
This position covers multiple WIC locations and offers up to 29 hours per week, with a minimum of 24 hours required. It provides limited para-professional social services to clients and their families, focusing on prenatal and breastfeeding support.
Responsibilities
- Facilitates prenatal breastfeeding classes alongside Certified Peer Counselors (CPA) for WIC participants
- Provides individual breastfeeding education in the WIC clinic as needed
- Offers basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers, including education on the benefits of breastfeeding, overcoming common barriers, and starting breastfeeding successfully
- Documents peer counselor contacts in the database system
- Attends and participates in monthly staff meetings and breastfeeding conferences/workshops
- Completes other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Must have a current or former WIC ID number
- Must have breastfed one or more of your children for six months or longer
- Must be a current or former WIC participant
- Must be bilingual (Spanish/English)
- Must have basic computer skills
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must be able to assist moms with breastfeeding in assigned WIC Clinic
- Must be able to manage multiple duties simultaneously
Qualifications
- Bilingual – Spanish/English
- Public Health experience preferred
- Computer experience (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, data entry, etc.)
- Excellent customer service and oral communication skills
- Strong desire to help other mothers enjoy a positive breastfeeding experience
