Job Summary
The Assistant Football Coach assists the head football coach with providing vision, leadership, and oversight for current and prospective student-athletes, as well as developing practice and game plans for the football program. This is a part-time, 12-month position that reports to the Head Football Coach.
Major Duties
- Abide and comply with all applicable NCAA, SIAC, and FVSU policies, rules, and regulations
- Attend practices and games
- Responsible for assisting the Offensive Coordinator with the FVSU Offensive package
- Responsible for assisting the Special Teams Coordinator with the FVSU Special Teams package
- Help develop practice and game plans for the football program
- Provide individual and small group instruction
- Analyze game/practice videos
- Aid in the overall vision of the football strength and conditioning program
- Coordinate, identify, evaluate, and actively recruit prospective students including scheduling on-campus visits
- Attend meetings with the coaching staff and individual student-athletes
- Strive to build and strengthen cross-campus relationships
- Assist Athletics Department with fundraising endeavors
- Perform summer duties and special projects as assigned by the Head Football Coach or Director of Athletics
Knowledge Required by the Position
- Ability to work collaboratively with departmental and university personnel and administration
- Demonstrated ability to participate in public relations activities, to include television and radio interviews, and press conferences, as appropriate
- Demonstrated ability to handle high levels of stress and anxiety
Work Environment
- Travel required during playing season and recruitment season
- Evenings, weekends during playing season and recruitment season
- Working outdoors
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to stand or walk for an extended period of time
- Lift or carry up to 25 pounds
- Must be able to bend, squat, kneel, reach overhead, lift overhead
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Three (3) years coaching experience
- Experience as a college football player
- Valid Driver's License
- Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA and SIAC rules and regulations governing recruitment, eligibility, and related functions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with departmental and university personnel and administration
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree
- Experience coaching at the collegiate level
- Experience recruiting student athletes
