About the role

Remote Part-Time Readers for the Colgate Office of Admission will provide critical support in the holistic assessment of Early and Regular Decision first-year applicants. Responsibilities include computing and gathering quantitative data on applicants, conducting holistic applicant reviews alongside a reading partner, and evaluating applicants in accordance with Colgate's mission as outlined in the Third-Century Plan. Thorough training on Colgate's application review process will be provided upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct holistic reviews of first-year applications alongside a reading partner.
  • Compute and gather quantitative data on applicants.
  • Provide comprehensive and relevant summary comments.
  • Evaluate applicants in alignment with Colgate’s mission and standards of a highly selective liberal arts institution.
  • Work accurately at a fast pace to ensure efficient and high-quality application review.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least one year of experience with application review.
  • Must be available for 20–25 hours per week, Monday–Friday from 8am–5pm (EST), and occasional weekend assignments from mid-October through March 31.
  • Must have a permanent residence in New York State or Virginia due to remote work licensing.
  • Must have your own computer and a stable internet connection.
  • Strong math skills, organizational skills, and time management skills.
  • Collaborative work experience and ability to work with confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Appreciation of the liberal arts philosophy and/or previous volunteer or employment experience in the liberal arts.
  • Knowledge of non-U.S. educational systems and curriculums, with experience reviewing international credentials.

Schedule

20–25 hours per week, Monday–Friday from 8am–5pm (EST), with occasional weekend assignments from mid-October through March 31.

This position is not approved to work more than 999 hours per year across all positions. Remote arrangements are reviewed regularly and are based on performance. Work visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

To avoid conflicts of interest, candidates with personal or professional interactions with high school students (e.g., parents/guardians of high school juniors or seniors, athletic coaches, high school staff, testing agency employees, independent counselors, or employees at other undergraduate institutions) will not be considered.
