Parks Technician (Athletic Field Maintenance)

Responsibilities
- Skilled manual and technical work in the maintenance and operation of public grounds and facilities.
- Scheduling, organizing, and securing materials/equipment for assigned tasks.
- Field decision-making and ensuring positive results.
- Basic leadership skills through proper decision-making and safety practices.
- Efficient pesticide and fertilizer application while maintaining safety.
- Routine inspections and preventative maintenance on mechanical equipment, vehicles, and parks assets.
- Determining and obtaining appropriate equipment and materials for specific tasks.
- Training and monitoring park employees while ensuring safety.
- Mowing, trimming, and turf maintenance tasks as needed.
- Operating and adjusting power and hand tools and equipment.
- Preventative maintenance and assisting in construction of grounds, facilities, and athletic fields.
- Weed control using mechanical methods and/or herbicides.
- Snow removal and sanding according to city standards and schedules.
- Addressing complaints and concerns from citizens.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least (2) two years of experience directly related to landscape maintenance.
- Experience in landscape maintenance, pesticide application, turfgrass management and maintenance, and irrigation systems.
- Knowledge of mechanical equipment and maintenance tools, athletic field layouts/dimensions and particular maintenance requirements, policies and procedures for record keeping, snow removal procedures, park, open space, forestry, or horticulture maintenance safety procedures, and materials and equipment used in maintenance.
- Skills in tool and equipment maintenance activities, adjusting equipment appropriately, using supplies safely and efficiently, transporting and operating equipment safely, listening well and communicating effectively, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships, and operating and receiving training on various types of equipment.
- Class B Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement or obtain within the first (6) six months of hire.
- Sustainable Landscape Management (Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado) certification within the first (12) twelve months.
- One Certified Landscape Technician Certificate in any of the following exterior maintenance categories: Softscape Installation, Irrigation, Turf Maintenance, Ornamental Maintenance, or Principles of Turfgrass.
- Or obtain within (12) twelve months of hire.
- Valid Driver’s License with a good driving history.
Benefits
Salary to be commensurate with experience. The hiring range for this role is $21.32 - $26.65/hour.
