About the role

The Parks Operation Manager oversees the maintenance and operations of city parks and facilities. Key responsibilities include planning, implementing, and administering park maintenance; managing personnel; assisting in budget management; maintaining equipment and supplies; operating various tools and equipment; coordinating special events; managing contracts; and performing related duties.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, implements, and administers the maintenance of city parks grounds, facilities, and/or athletic fields
  • Troubleshoots maintenance problems at parks, facilities, and fields
  • Assists in performing maintenance tasks as needed
  • Counsels and trains personnel
  • Develops and manages budgets
  • Maintains equipment and supply inventory
  • Operates a variety of tools and equipment used in the maintenance and repairs of parks and athletic facilities
  • Coordinates support in a variety of special events
  • Manages contracts with service providers

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Turf Grass Management or Parks and Recreation Administration, or a closely related field
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible related experience and/or training in Field Maintenance Operations
  • Valid State of Georgia driver’s license
  • First Aid, CPR, AED, and Lifesaving certifications through the American Red Cross (or equivalent association)
  • Georgia Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator license or obtain within 90 days of employment
  • Certified Playground Safety Inspector or obtain within 6 months of employment

Qualifications

  • Comprehensive knowledge of sports turf management practices and operations
  • Knowledge of landscaping principles and practices
  • Basic knowledge of ground maintenance procedures
  • Methods and procedures for the maintenance and upkeep of sports field turf
  • Safe work procedures in the operation of a variety of hand and power tools and equipment
  • Ability to understand, follow, and complete oral and/or written directions
  • Ability to multi-task assignments with concurrent deadlines and varying degrees of complexity
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with staff members and/or supervisors
  • Work independently and use sound judgment in performing grounds maintenance activities
  • Must demonstrate the ability to operate commercial vehicles, forklifts, and other light motorized equipment
  • Maintain routine records
  • Knowledge of budget management principles
  • Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures, and relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations
  • Skill in the operation of job-related vehicles and equipment
