About the role
The Parks Operation Manager oversees the maintenance and operations of city parks and facilities. Key responsibilities include planning, implementing, and administering park maintenance; managing personnel; assisting in budget management; maintaining equipment and supplies; operating various tools and equipment; coordinating special events; managing contracts; and performing related duties.
Responsibilities
- Plans, implements, and administers the maintenance of city parks grounds, facilities, and/or athletic fields
- Troubleshoots maintenance problems at parks, facilities, and fields
- Assists in performing maintenance tasks as needed
- Counsels and trains personnel
- Develops and manages budgets
- Maintains equipment and supply inventory
- Operates a variety of tools and equipment used in the maintenance and repairs of parks and athletic facilities
- Coordinates support in a variety of special events
- Manages contracts with service providers
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Turf Grass Management or Parks and Recreation Administration, or a closely related field
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible related experience and/or training in Field Maintenance Operations
- Valid State of Georgia driver’s license
- First Aid, CPR, AED, and Lifesaving certifications through the American Red Cross (or equivalent association)
- Georgia Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator license or obtain within 90 days of employment
- Certified Playground Safety Inspector or obtain within 6 months of employment
Qualifications
- Comprehensive knowledge of sports turf management practices and operations
- Knowledge of landscaping principles and practices
- Basic knowledge of ground maintenance procedures
- Methods and procedures for the maintenance and upkeep of sports field turf
- Safe work procedures in the operation of a variety of hand and power tools and equipment
- Ability to understand, follow, and complete oral and/or written directions
- Ability to multi-task assignments with concurrent deadlines and varying degrees of complexity
- Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing with staff members and/or supervisors
- Work independently and use sound judgment in performing grounds maintenance activities
- Must demonstrate the ability to operate commercial vehicles, forklifts, and other light motorized equipment
- Maintain routine records
- Knowledge of budget management principles
- Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures, and relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations
- Skill in the operation of job-related vehicles and equipment
