About the role

The Montgomery County Department of Parks—Southern Parks Division seeks an experienced, organized, and professional Parks/Facilities Maintenance Leader-CDL to oversee the division’s Stormwater Management Team located in Potomac, MD.

Responsibilities

  • Lead stormwater maintenance across park systems and facilities
  • Schedule and supervise staff, ensuring environmental compliance
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair drainage systems and infrastructure
  • Support emergency response operations (e.g., storm events, flooding, debris removal)
  • Operate and maintain heavy equipment, tools, and CDL-required vehicles
  • Transport crews and materials; support storm and emergency response
  • Manage staffing, schedules, and work orders
  • Track assets, activities, and compliance reporting
  • Maintain records, communication, and staff training

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in ground maintenance, golf course maintenance, building maintenance or park maintenance
  • Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations
  • Pass Commission medical examination
  • Within 12 months of hire, obtain a Commercial driver’s license with appropriate endorsements
  • Obtain certifications including: Maryland Department of Agriculture’s Pesticide Applicator certification, Maryland Department of Agriculture’s Professional Fertilizer Applicator certification, and National Playground Safety Institute certification

Qualifications

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, totaling five (5) years
  • Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations
  • Driver’s license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee’s ability to drive
  • Pass Commission medical examination
  • Within 12 months of hire, obtain a Commercial driver’s license with appropriate endorsements
  • Obtain certifications including: Maryland Department of Agriculture’s Pesticide Applicator certification, Maryland Department of Agriculture’s Professional Fertilizer Applicator certification, and National Playground Safety Institute certification

Schedule

Primarily works outside. May be required to work weekends, evenings and holidays. Occasional exposure to weather, dirt, waste, odors, caustic chemicals, pesticides, wildlife, and potentially harmful insects (e.g., bees, hornets, wasps) and plants (e.g., poison ivy).
