Responsibilities

  • Training:
    • Train all officers assigned by the Training Specialist in a clear and consistent manner.
    • Complete daily training reports for review with each trainee and provide training recommendations to the Training Specialist.
    • Conduct training in accordance with department policies and procedures.
    • Provide written evaluations and feedback to trainees after each training shift.
    • Make recommendations to the Training Specialist and Management regarding trainees’ progress or need for re-training.
    • Perform re-training as directed.
    • Assist trainees and customers with questions about campus procedures and parking operations.
    • Recommend improvements to the training program, materials, and efficiency.
    • Assist in producing and revising training manuals and materials.
  • Enforcement/Traffic Control:
    • Enforce parking regulations by issuing warnings and citations, including checking for overtime or illegal/restricted parking.
    • Apply and remove immobility devices.
    • Set up and move barrels, barricades, and other traffic control equipment.
    • Perform traffic control and direction duties.
    • Maintain records and prepare detailed reports.
    • Provide information to employees, students, and visitors regarding campus parking regulations and directions.
    • Make decisions and apply discretion on enforcement and managerial issues, especially during non-business hours.
    • Use customer relation skills to de-escalate interactions, particularly at night.
    • Handle customer complaints and problems directly, especially during shifts with reduced resources.
  • Shift Leader/Dispatch/SCAN:
    • Perform duties as shift leader, including scheduling personnel, conducting pre-shift briefings, and monitoring assigned areas.
    • Handle routine and emergency calls in the dispatch office, disseminate information, and coordinate with other agencies or emergency services.
    • Provide license plate and parking permit information.
    • Direct the actions of other Parking Services Officers as needed.
    • Manage department activities during special events on campus.
    • Assist with uniform and equipment inventory.
    • Maintain parking services offices, work areas, and vehicles in a neat and orderly manner.
    • Identify maintenance requirements for facilities and recommend changes to parking surface painting and signage.
  • Training/Security:
    • Perform advanced in-field duties in traffic control, parking enforcement, dispatch, and Special Controlled Access Network.
    • Provide in-field training to junior Parking Services Officers and evaluate assigned personnel.
    • Participate in field training programs to upgrade skills and perform supervisory duties.
    • Provide low-level security while patrolling.
    • Perform advanced supervisory and in-field duties when not assigned a trainee.
    • Offer assistance to university employees, students, and visitors.

Requirements

  • Education and Experience:
    • High school graduation or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Must be a Parking Services Officer IV in good standing with the department.
    • Must have demonstrated willingness and ability to train.
  • Licenses and Certifications:
    • Valid vehicle driver license and good driving record.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Computer literacy and excellent communication skills.
    • Ability to handle busy phone, 2-way radio, and office traffic, and perform time-critical tasks reliably.
    • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
    • Strong customer relations skills.
    • Ability to work independently and with reduced managerial oversight.
    • Ability to work rotating shifts.
    • Ability to perform supervisory tasks as necessary.
    • Ability to operate and comprehend technical aspects of electronic data terminals, ticket writers, telephone systems, video monitors, computer systems, and parking access/revenue control devices.
    • Ability to use mobility devices such as walking, bicycle, scooter, T3, Segway, GO-4, and/or car/truck with training.

Pay

Starting pay for nights: $25.31/hour.
