Parking Meter Technician

Responsibilities

• Ensure that parking meters are maintained, cleaned, and repaired if damaged in a timely fashion.
• Aid with parking enforcement duties as required.
• Install new and replacement on-street meters as needed.
• Provide preventative maintenance for existing on-street meters.
• Provide preventive maintenance programs for existing single space meters.
• Ensure that all meters are cleaned, batteries are replaced routinely.
• Maintain an ample parts inventory including domes, batteries, poles, spare housings & locks, mechanisms, etc., for immediate replacement.
• Immediately respond to meter repair requests.
• Maintain a meter repair log.
• Conduct daily checks of routes for damaged meters.

Qualifications

• Must have certain traits and abilities that enable achieving expected levels of performance, such as exercising sound independent judgment and maintaining a high level of customer service.
• Technical proficiency, knowledge of the area’s geography, knowledge of hazards and safety precautions, ability to operate a motorized vehicle, ability to interact with others in a courteous and tactful manner, ability to walk for extended periods of time, ability to lift at least 50 pounds, and must be 18 years of age or older at time of hire.
• Valid state-issued driver’s license with a current address and acceptable driving record.
• Availability to work special shifts, if applicable, including 3rd shift and/or weekends.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, talk and listen.
• Exposure to outside weather conditions including snow storms, and extreme heat.
• Work in and around potentially dangerous traffic situations.
• Safety consciousness at all times.
