Essential Duties

  • Patrol streets and beaches on foot, bike or by vehicle;
  • gives warnings;
  • issues citations for vehicles illegally parked.
  • Provides information to the public regarding parking, City geography, and animal regulations.
  • Prepares reports and maintains action logs regarding parking enforcement;
  • Assists in the installation, cleaning, and light maintenance on parking meters and parking machines;
  • assists in maintaining vehicles, equipment and department facilities.
  • Prepares and issues parking citations in accordance with the Del Mar Municipal Code and State law.

Qualifications

  • Parking Enforcement Officer I: Training and Experience - Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Minimum Qualifications - Valid California driver’s license, Class C, with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Parking Enforcement Officer II: Training and Experience - At least two years of similar experience performing the full range of Parking Enforcement duties or two seasons of related part-time seasonal employment with a minimum of 800 hours paid work with the City of Del Mar or similar work performed for a minimum of 800 hours at an acceptable level with another agency.
  • Minimum Qualifications - Valid California driver’s license, Class C, with a satisfactory driving record.

Pay

Part-Time, Seasonal, Temporary positions are limited to 1,300 hours per fiscal year. The City of Del Mar provides only limited benefits for temporary employees. These benefits include the City's retirement contributions of 1.45% to Medicare and 1.3% to the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS), an alternate retirement system. Employee contributions of 1.45% to Medicare and 6.2% to PARS are required for these benefits and will be deducted from employees' paychecks. Additionally, in accordance with State law, employees are provided forty (40) hours of sick leave annually based on their anniversary date with a 90-day waiting period before becoming eligible to use sick leave. Employees in these positions will receive one and a half times (1.5x) their normal hourly rate for all hours worked on all designated City holidays.
