About the role
The City of Rawlins is seeking a Parks Technician I to join their team. This position involves performing a variety of entry-level skilled and semi-skilled duties related to the construction, installation, maintenance, upkeep, and repair of parks, greenbelts, cemeteries, and similar facilities.
Responsibilities
- Performs general building maintenance; constructs and maintains small buildings, and storage facilities;
- Affirms proper operation of lighting fixtures, doors, windows, and plumbing;
- Assists in framing, painting, roofing, fencing, or other skilled construction and maintenance activities related to carpentry, plumbing, and electrical;
- Maintains courts, playgrounds, irrigation systems and landscaping;
- Affirms proper installation and maintenance of playground equipment;
- Performs playground equipment safety inspections;
- Performs some carpentry work for signs and benches;
- Prepares the grounds for events such as Music in the Park and reunions.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent;
- Driver’s license required;
- Full-time position starting at $35,027.20 per year;
- Full benefits.
Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or equivalent;
- Sufficient education and training to demonstrate an aptitude or ability to perform above and related duties;
- One (1) year of general, entry-level experience in construction and the maintenance, upkeep, and beautification of turf, parks, facilities and related environs preferred;
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills
- Some knowledge of cemetery mapping system, maintenance equipment such as backhoe, loader, dump truck, mowers, tractor, aerators, welder, trimmers, etc.;
- Landscape and sprinkler system design;
- Flow pumps;
- Knowledge of hazards and related safety precautions associated with equipment operations;
- Knowledge of herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, and pesticides, and proper application of the same;
- Knowledge of turf and greens management;
- Interpersonal communication skills;
- General carpentry, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and related skill areas as needed to perform routine maintenance duties.
Special Qualifications
- Must possess a valid drivers license;
- Must acquire a Pesticide Applicators Certification within six (6) months of hire date in turf and ornamental applications.
Work Environment
- Sustained periods of sitting and standing;
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, ride, climb, bend, kneel, crawl, twist, reach, grasp, push, pull and perform similar body movements;
- Carry and lift objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds;
- Frequent local travel required in normal course of job performance.
