Park Laborer PT

The purpose of this position is to provide grounds maintenance and to maintain the appearances and services of Farmers Branch.

Essential Job Functions

• Provides grounds maintenance including: irrigation system installation, maintenance, and repair; vehicle maintenance; litter and trash control; pest control services; signage; maintenance of park benches, picnic tables, grills, and trash cans; trimming, planting, mulching, and landscaping; hauling heavy items and equipment; and overseeing assigned volunteers.
• Provides general maintenance and support at special events including preparation activities and litter/trash control; hauling light and heavy items, installing temporary safety fences and trash cans.

Education and Experience

• Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines.
• Level of knowledge is equivalent to less than high school or equivalency.
• One Year Of Experience Is Preferred.

Special Requirements

• May be subject to "stand by" duty outside of normal working hours.
• Valid Class "C" driver's license with good driving record and ability to maintain while employed.

• This position normally performs the duty assignment after receiving general instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results.
• There is some opportunity for discretion when making selections among a few, easily identifiable choices.
• The assignment is usually reviewed upon completion.
• Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions;
• Ability to deal with the public in a courteous manner.
• Ability to perform strenuous and routine work.
• Basic ability to recognize meaning of common two or three syllable words.
• Basic ability to perform the four basic arithmetic operations.
• Basic ability to write simple sentences containing subject, verb, and object, and/or a series of numbers, names, and addresses.
• Work requires regular interaction involving exchange and receipt of information.
• Knowledge of ground maintenance equipment and techniques.
• Skill in operating both heavy and light equipment.
• Skill in the use of small hand tools and power tools.
