Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine manual labor tasks to support the maintenance, beautification, and daily operations of City parks, sports complexes, facilities, and public spaces. This position requires working regular weekend shifts, including Saturdays and Sundays. Essential Duties And Responsibilities: Maintain and repair City parks, sports fields, and landscaped areasOperate equipment such as mowers, edgers, tillers, pickup trucks, chainsaws, and various hand toolsMaintaining ball fields, including mowing, tilling, leveling, and stripingPerform general landscaping and groundskeeping duties: mowing, weed eating, trimming, planting, and irrigation repairClean park restrooms, pick up litter, and perform minor carpentry repairsPerforming minor repairs and reporting major repair needs for vehicles, tools, and equipmentPerform regular maintenance and assigned tasks on weekends, holidays, and as needed for special projects or emergenciesAssist in setting up and breaking down department and city-wide eventsAssist with traffic control, setup, and support for City-sponsored eventsWork independently and with a team to complete job assignments based on specific instructions.Build positive working relationships with coworkers and supervisors and contractorsTake initiative to identify problems and suggest solutions in assigned areasProvide courteous and timely responses to public inquiries and complaintsRepresent the Parks & Recreation Department with a positive public image Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED requiredAt least one year of stable work experience as an equipment operator, driver, or similarGeneral knowledge of the operation, use, and safety of heavy equipment and machineryAbility to follow written and oral instructions with minimal supervisionAbility to interact courteously with the public and coworkersValid Texas Driver's License and satisfactory driving record required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities: Knowledge of materials and maintenance techniques used in park and grounds upkeepAbility to operate and maintain hand tools and power equipmentBasic understanding of irrigation systems, small repairs, and carpentry tasksAbility to follow written and verbal instructionsCommitment to safe work practicesStrong communication skills and a professional, courteous attitude with the public and coworkersAbility to work independently and proactively identify and report issues to supervisors Physical Requirements & Work Environment: Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and during special events.Physically agile and capable of moving safely and efficiently through parks and work sites.Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 100 poundsExposure to chemicals, plant irritants, vehicle fumes, and extreme temperaturesAbility to operate equipment such as mowers, tractors, and hand tools.Ability to drive and operate Parks Department vehiclesRequires frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, crawling, and balancing.Comfortable working at heights (from ladders or bucket trucks) and around water (e.g., lakes or ponds).Must be able to verbally communicate and handle tools with both hands.Specific vision requirements include close vision and ability to adjust focusParticipation in event setup and takedown is mandatory.This position requires regular in-person attendance, including availability for weekend shifts, holidays, and after-hours emergency response as needed.
