Parent Child Educator (Community Health Educator II) 15hrs/week / Day Shift

MelroseWakefield Hospital is seeking a part-time (15 hrs/week) candidate to join our team as a Community Health Educator (Parent Child Educator). This role focuses on providing medical and clinical support services to patients and performing community health duties.

About the role

This position educates individuals, families, and communities to promote, maintain, and improve health. Responsibilities include strengthening community ties, recruiting volunteers, establishing a positive public image, conducting outreach, and promoting services and public involvement.

An experienced individual contributor role that may direct the work of other lower-level professionals or manage processes and programs. The majority of time is spent overseeing the design, implementation, or delivery of processes, programs, and policies using specialized knowledge typically acquired through advanced education.

Responsibilities

• Works with hospital staff, physicians, and community members to plan programs to meet assessed needs.
• Develops and uses appropriate educational strategies and methods to facilitate program development.
• Assesses the social and cultural competence of the community and develops culturally diversified health programs.
• Conducts effective education and informational presentations using general principles of learning and adult education.
• Establishes a healthy learning environment utilizing evidence-based health education concepts.
• Utilizes a variety of types and sources of data when gathering health care information about the community.
• Plans, organizes, and coordinates special events such as health fairs and screenings.
• Maintains competence in knowledge about community, current health issues, and health and social services.
• Develops effective written health education materials.

Requirements

• Two (2) years of college coursework OR Associate’s Degree.
• One (1) year of related experience.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent standing and walking, occasional sitting, and lifting of 10–50 lbs.
• Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation to demonstrate childbirth techniques and operate video equipment and computer keyboard.
• Requires ability to communicate effectively and see computer screen and reports.

Skills & Abilities

• High proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
• Thorough working knowledge and experience using multiple database software products including Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
• Strong teaching skills, with the ability to adjust to meet the needs of the class.
• Excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet scheduled deadlines.
• Excellent interpersonal skills when working with new parents.

Pay

Base pay range: $24.00–$24.00 per hour.
