PARATRANSIT OPERATOR

About the role

Operating buses in City and Suburban areas.

Responsibilities

• Must maintain a neat appearance.
• Operate buses safely and efficiently in compliance with all traffic laws and regulations.
• Communicate courteously and effectively with the public and outside agencies.
• Wear and utilize any required personal protective equipment.
• Perform duties that may include bending, squatting, reaching, climbing (stairs), twisting (arm/back), and rotating (arm).
• Lift (up to 10 pounds), carry (up to 10 pounds), push, and/or pull (10-20 pounds) materials and/or equipment.
• Sit for extended periods of time, up to eight hours per day.

Requirements

• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
• Must possess a New York State Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class C minimum, with passenger endorsement (15 or more adult passengers) or a CDL B permit with passenger endorsement.
• Must meet minimum physical requirements pursuant to N.Y.S. Motor Vehicle and Traffic Law (Article 19-a).
• Must have a satisfactory prior work and attendance record.
• Must have a safe driving record.

Working Conditions

• 95% of time is spent inside the bus, 5% outside, exposing the employee to natural environmental conditions.
• Exposure to fumes, noise (bus engine and surroundings), and vibration (seat).
• Potential exposure to hazards such as customer assault and motorized vehicles.
