Paraprofessional V - Multiple

Base rate: $17.81/hr (26-27 rate)

Responsible To

Director of Pupil Services and/or Principal; responsible to the classroom teacher.

Qualifications

• At least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or equivalent diploma.
• Ability to assist and/or supervise students.
• Meets all mandated health requirements.
• Documentation of a clear criminal record.
• Experience working with persons with disabilities, preferably in a school setting.
• Must hold a valid Ohio Educational Aide Certificate with the ESEA qualified endorsement or hold a Bachelor's degree ODE issued license/certificate. (ESEA stands for the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act, or No Child Left Behind, which requires educational aides or paraprofessionals working in Title I settings to meet certain qualifications per Senate Bill 216.)
• Must hold and maintain current Step Up to Quality (SUTQ) certification for those placed in the preschool setting.

Responsibilities & Specific Duties

• Under direction of instructor, monitor and/or implement instructional activities in groups or one-to-one situations using appropriate motivational and reinforcement techniques.
• Provide for the safety of the students.
• Assist with the implementation of student IEPs, including related services as required.
• Work on days that are designated as student days and waiver days.
• Assist and supervise children in any instructional or school-related setting, including, but not limited to: community-based instruction, regular education classrooms, special education classrooms, lunchrooms, playground, recreation/physical education activities, field trips, hallways, or restrooms.
• Knowledge of and ability with training to use appropriate techniques involving physical crisis intervention.
• Make recommendations for instructional program improvement.
• Assist students with organizational and study skills.
• Reinforce goals and objectives of the students' IEP.
• Use appropriate behavior management, motivational, and reinforcement techniques with students.
• Successfully complete training in supporting students with special needs as determined by the Director of Pupil Services.
• Support in the collection of data, maintenance of charts, and assist with informal assessments and write anecdotal records as requested by instructor.
• May participate in or attend appropriate team meetings as necessary.
• Provide ongoing feedback regarding changes in student performance.
• Assist in care and organization of instructional materials and equipment.
• May feed, dress, and perform other personal care routines for students, as needed.
• Participate in bus loading and unloading, as necessary.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned within the general scope of the job description by the classroom teacher, building principal, and Director of Pupil Services.
• All classified employees are encouraged to attend up to four (4) in-service or orientation meetings annually on a voluntary basis.

Physical and Other Requirements

• Sufficient ambulatory ability to travel to/from school and from room to room to interact with staff, as well as remain in a fixed location for a period of time.
• Sufficient ability to hear the conversational voice with or without the aid of a hearing device.
• Sufficient ability to see with or without corrective lenses.
• Sufficient ability to speak and be understood under normal circumstances.
• Sufficient use of arms, hands, legs, and feet with or without corrective devices to accomplish the job.
• Suited for situations that require the ability to plan ahead, yet remain flexible enough to adapt to new situations or react to emergencies.
• Suited for situations that require the ability to interact well with other people, but also the ability to work alone.
• Physical ability to perform student transfer techniques and operate student equipment for elementary through high school age students.
• May be required to handle bodily fluids containing blood and may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens (exercises proper precautions and safety strategies).
• Responsible for following safety guidelines provided in training and safety manuals.
• Able to change work assignment from school to school, when so designated by the supervisor.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent or designee according to Board-approved evaluation instrument.
