About the role
The Paraprofessional supports the instructional program within assigned classrooms, specifically focusing on the supervision, care, and instruction of special needs students in regular or self-contained settings. The position reports to the Principal and is part of a self-contained special education program (STEP) for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Responsibilities
- Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and materials under the direction of the supervising teacher.
- Administers tests, homework, and make-up work as directed by the teacher.
- Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance as needed, following instructions from a healthcare professional.
- Maintains students' personal hygiene and monitors their behavior during non-classroom times.
- Attends meetings and in-service presentations to acquire and convey relevant information.
- Communicates with supervising staff, support personnel, and parents to evaluate progress and implement IEP objectives.
- Implements behavioral plans designed by the IEP team under the supervision of the assigned teacher.
- Maintains instructional materials and records as required.
- Maintains a safe and positive learning environment by monitoring students in various school settings.
- Provides instruction in individual and group activities as directed by the teacher.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a job-related field.
- Licenses: Professional Educator License, Substitute Teaching License, Educator License with Stipulations (TBE), or Educator License with Stipulations (PARA).

- Minimum starting salary with a license - Middle School (6.5 hours per day) - Step 1/$29,221.73
