About the Role

Support young students in class with learning English and making appropriate grade-level growth.

Responsibilities

• Assist with setup of classroom and prepare materials for specialized instructional units
• Assist teacher in maintaining discipline and other functions
• Plan, develop, and implement class curriculum approved by the teacher
• Provide instructional support services under the supervision of the teacher
• Provide corrective feedback to students and re-teach as necessary
• Serve as mentor to the students
• Communicate, collaborate, and cooperate with colleagues, supervisors, and students
• Support individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning activities
• Assist instructional personnel with the development and presentation of learning materials
• Assist in administering pre- and post-testing
• Conduct parental involvement activities
• Support students in unified arts classes (Art, Music, World Cultures, PE, and Library) as needed
• Complete written reports and assigned tasks related to the functions
• Participate in meetings as requested
• Assist with assessments, data collection, behavior plans, and transitions
• Attend curriculum meetings and classroom team meetings as needed
• Follow the schedule provided by the supervising teacher
• Cover classes when needed
• Complete additional tasks assigned

Requirements

• Associate's degree or Para Pro Test
• Experience in public education in an urban setting (preferred)
• Ability to work effectively with students and staff
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, in both English and Portuguese
• Ability to communicate effectively with parents
• Knowledge of current educational practices
