Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supports instruction to all students reinforcing the certified teacher’s lessons.
- Provides support to the teacher to ensure a safe and stimulating educational environment.
- Aids instructional efforts of the teacher.
- Aids students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
- Plans and administers remedial lessons per certified teacher’s direction.
- Provides specialized attendant services as required by the student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and as directed by the teacher.
- Performs administrative support and assistance for teaching staff.
- Prepares documents and correspondence including typing letters, memos, schedules, notices, tracking data and other miscellaneous items; photocopies documents; maintains files; and distributes items, as needed.
- Aids in implementing policies and rules governing student conduct.
- Provides supervision of students as directed by the teacher and/or the principal.
- Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
- Organizes the physical environment to ensure that the classroom is safe and supports the learning of all students.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Demonstrates professional conduct.
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information.
- Develops and maintains trust and positive relationships with parents, students, and staff members.
- Serves as a positive role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.
- Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
- Participates in in-service training and programs as assigned.
- Performs any other professional duties as assigned by the classroom teacher, director of special education, principal, district administrator, or designee.
- May transport students in district-owned vehicles when requested.
Other Experience and Qualifications
- Knowledge of office procedures, general office equipment, and of the operation of equipment and teaching aides utilized in the classroom.
- Ability to learn departmental programs, operations, and policies with respect to general functions performed.
