Applicants must meet one of the following qualifications: an Associate's or higher degree; completion of 60 credit hours towards a degree at an accredited institution; or a passing score on the Praxis Para Pro, WorkKeys, or an equivalent assessment. A minimum of three years of experience working in an elementary school setting is highly desired.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and oversee a positive learning environment under the direction of the classroom teacher.
- Assist the teacher in implementing appropriate daily learning experiences aligned with approved practices and the instructional mission of the school and district.
- Collaborate with the teacher on curricular planning, classroom environment issues, and instructional practices.
- Assist in providing unique and/or special accommodations required for students.
- Help promote a safe, secure, and healthy learning environment.
- Work cooperatively and respectfully with others.
- Provide individualized instruction to identified students and small groups experiencing difficulty in reading and mathematics.
- Plan instructional activities that meet students' individual needs, interests, and abilities in reading and mathematics.
- Advise teachers about students' progress throughout the course of intervention.
- Retrieve and help analyze student performance data to evaluate intervention effectiveness and determine progress.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Pay
Rate of pay is based upon credentials and experience in accordance with the district-approved pay schedule.
Schedule
Length of service: 185 days.
Reports to: Principal. Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with Sumter School Board policy. This job description does not imply these are the only duties; employees may be required to perform other related duties as assigned.
