About the Role
Paraprofessionals report to the assigned special educator or Title I Coordinator under the direction of the building administration. They work as a team member with regular and special education staff to support students with special needs in and out of the classroom. Paraprofessionals must have the ability to work effectively with students on an individual or group basis under the direct and close supervision of the professional staff.
The paraprofessional must demonstrate mastery of the basic skills required in the curriculum level and demonstrate skills and knowledge required to work with students at their developmental levels.
Qualifications
- Possess an Associate’s Degree or have completed two years of college coursework, or pass the state qualification exam (required to work in a Title I school or program in the district).
- Comply with current legal requirements regarding certification and ESSA requirements.
Responsibilities
- Implementation of Teacher-Planned Instruction:
- Implements plans created by and under direct supervision of a teacher, special educator, or related services provider.
- Monitors and provides assistance to students during classroom activities.
- Supports students using instructional modifications for lessons prepared by the class teacher or special educator.
- Checks for work completion and reinforces skills previously taught.
- Communicates with team members about a student's program and shares/receives information about student progress as requested.
- Records and charts data.
- Prepares instructional materials as provided by the classroom teacher (e.g., graphic organizers, manipulatives).
- Refers questions or concerns related to assessment of student progress, programming, or medical status to the case manager or appropriate professional staff.
- Supervision of Students:
- Supervises students at lunchtime, playground, and recess.
- Supervises students' arrival and departure within contract hours.
- Supervises study groups and students during transitions.
- Behavioral and Social Support:
- Implements behavioral student support plans developed by the teacher or team.
- Communicates with team members about a student's program and behaviors.
- Observes, records, and charts students' behavioral responses.
- Facilitates student interactions.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding all student interactions, records, or achievement at all times.
- Participates in professional development at the local level and outside the community.
- Performs other tasks as assigned by the special education case manager or Building Principal.
Skills
- Able to compose emails and utilize the email system for communication.
- Ability to effectively and appropriately interact with students of all ages, faculty, and administration.

- Regularly required to talk or hear.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display terminal.

- Must be capable of lifting up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include both close and far vision.
Per RSA 200:36, all new employees must have a physical exam before starting work, with a doctor's statement confirming the ability to perform their duties.
Work Environment
The work environment is a standard classroom/school setting. The noise level can range from low to moderate to occasionally high in volume.
Conditions of Employment
Salary, work year, and other conditions are contained in the current bargaining unit agreement. Performance for this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with School Board policy on the evaluation of staff.
