The Occupational Medicine department focuses on creating safe and healthy work places, diagnosing and treating work-related injuries and illnesses, and promoting preventive care.

Responsibilities

• Assists in implementing Occupational Medicine clinic workflows within the scope of a Paramedic license, including immunizations testing, vaccination updates, drug screens, alcohol testing, blood draws and other occupational health procedures.
• Provides initial medical assessment and care for work-related injuries and illnesses to help prevent unnecessary hospital visits.
• Utilizes the paramedic process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation to deliver individualized care under physician supervision.
• Maintains thorough and accurate documentation of patient interactions, treatments, and regulatory information, including work accidents, injuries, and exposure records, to support employer and OSHA compliance.
• Collaborates with occupational health nurses, safety specialists, and other team members to promote a safe work environment and support adherence to health and safety regulations.
• Supports employee health and wellness initiatives, including screenings, education, and injury prevention activities.
• Collaborates with the broader health care team to support holistic patient care.
• Uses effective communication skills to collaborate, problem solve, and resolve issues with colleagues, patients, and families.
• Demonstrates strong clinical reasoning and critical thinking to assess data and respond appropriately to changing situations.
• Performs patient assessment, triage, education, coordination of care, and other paramedic-level clinical functions.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associates Degree in Paramedic Technology or Paramedicine preferred.
• Completion of an accredited Paramedic Training Program required for licensing.
• Hold national registry status at a Paramedic level.
• Additional training provided/workshops and staff meetings are to be attended as per policy.
• Depending on state requirements, individuals may need to have a state license.
• Additional licensures as required depending upon state; Paramedic (PAR) Certification, National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) Incident Command System (ICS)100, 200, 700, and 800 completed and continued education hours as mandated by accreditation.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or equivalent, advanced version for paramedics, International Trauma Life Support (ITLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) preferred depending on location.
• Must meet all medical guidelines for Sanford Health Category III drivers.
