The center offers multiple specialty services, including a Center for Family Medicine, Center for LGBTQ+ Care, and an Emergency Department.

As a Paramedic in the Emergency Department, you will assess the urgent medical needs of patients and stabilize their conditions. You will interact with other caregivers and assist with tasks such as placing IVs, checking rooms, and stocking supplies to improve patient flow and efficiency. This PRN position involves variable shifts, including day, mid, and night shifts, with durations of 4, 6, 8, 10, or 12 hours.

Responsibilities

  • Provide duties that assist in delivering patient care in the Emergency Department under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Obtain and record vital signs.
  • Perform EKGs, CPR, phlebotomy, and oral, nasal, and ET suctioning.
  • Initiate cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy, and saline locks.
  • Notify the RN and/or physician of rhythm changes.
  • Apply orthopaedic appliances and simple splints.
  • Size crutches and teach crutch walking.
  • Assist with equipment setup, chest tubes, gastric lavage, lumbar punctures (LP), etc.
  • Assist with restraint and seclusion of patients and apply restraint devices.
  • Transport patients and specimens.
  • Assist with sterile procedures and cleaning and maintaining supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect patient privacy.
  • Perform fluid/drug administration.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited EMS-Paramedic training program.
  • Current licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMTP) in Ohio.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the AHA or American Red Cross (upon hire or within one year of start date in the Emergency Department).
  • Clinical experience through an EMS Paramedic training program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) certification.
  • One year of experience as an EMT-P.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination, and involves extensive standing and walking.
  • Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay

The pay range for new hires in this role is $26.65 per hour. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined based on work history, experience, skill set, and education. This range does not include applicable pay practices such as shift differentials or overtime, nor does it reflect the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package, including healthcare, dental, vision, and retirement savings account contributions.
