Paramedic

About the Role

The Paramedic provides patient care in both emergency and non‑emergency environments, ensuring compliance with all State of Georgia EMS rules and regulations. The position includes checking and maintaining ambulance equipment and vehicle condition, holding required licenses and certifications, and attending mandatory training and EMT‑P courses. Employees are subject to a six‑month introductory probationary period.

Responsibilities

• Respond to all calls for service dispatched from the Central EMS communications center as directed.
• Provide medical care at sporting events and concerts.
• Provide care and treatment to patients according to company policy and the company medical director’s protocols.
• Ensure ambulance and all equipment is cleaned and checked daily; report any deficiencies immediately to the shift supervisor or Operations Manager.
• Prepare and complete appropriate reports, including Patient Care Reports (PCR), billing, exposure reports, incident reports, and daily, weekly, and monthly unit check‑offs.
• Ensure unit and crew members adhere to Central EMS policies, procedures, guidelines, directives, and standards; report any deficiencies to the shift supervisor or Operations Manager.
• Ensure vehicles placed in service comply with required laws, rules, licenses, and regulations as outlined by the State of Georgia and other authorized agencies.
• Maintain prompt and regular attendance at work and mandatory meetings.
• Maintain a state of readiness and professionalism while on‑duty.
• Maintain a professional appearance and conduct while in company uniform, both on and off duty.
• Work self‑motivated with little supervision or direction.
• Perform other duties as may be required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on‑site emergency medical services.
• Knowledge of company medical director‑approved protocols and standing orders.
• Ability to read and interpret local maps.
• Demonstrated skill in completing multiple, simultaneous, and rapidly emergent tasks.
• Demonstrated ability to read and understand medical terminology.
• Demonstrated ability to write reports and correspondence.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively present information and respond to questions regarding patient care, Central EMS operations, and other customer‑service issues.
• Demonstrated ability to utilize personal computer systems, including PCR reporting, email, and MDT applications.
• Demonstrated ability to represent Central EMS and team members as an EMS professional.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• State of Georgia EMT‑P License.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
• PHTLS or equivalent certification (within 6 months of hire).
• PALS or equivalent certification (within 6 months of hire).
• EVOC or equivalent certification.
• Current State of Georgia Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to reach, push, and pull.
• Ability to sit or stand for long periods.
• Ability to bend, stoop, squat, and kneel.
• Ability to walk up and down stairs without difficulty.
• Ability to lift and maneuver 150 lb, including up and down two flights of stairs.
• Ability to walk a distance of one quarter of a mile without difficulty.
• Ability to complete all job duties during any and all hours of the day and night.

Working Environment

Due to the nature of EMS care, employees may be exposed to inclement weather, hazardous conditions, psychological stressors, diseases, and other illnesses. Frequent interruptions, work pressure, difficult personalities, and irregular schedules are expected. Employees may face continually changing deadlines, occasional meetings outside regular hours, and periods without sleep, food, or breaks as determined by call load.
