Paramedic

Pafford EMS is seeking a Paramedic to provide Advanced Life Support in Grayson County, TX.

About the Role

Provides and directs fast, efficient Advanced Life Support to the ill and injured, responding to emergency rescue situations involving potential loss of life or bodily injury. Maintains control, manages, and directs patient care at the scene of pre-hospital emergencies. Performs training and instruction to lesser trained personnel.

Responsibilities

• Provides and directs Advanced Life Support utilizing all basic and advanced abilities and techniques, including placement of peripheral and intra-osseous lines, Supraglottic airways, endotracheal intubations, Cricothyrotomy, fluid and drug therapy, cardiac monitoring and EKG interpretations, defibrillation, and cardioversion.
• Recognizes and understands medical emergencies, making reasonable and acceptable differential diagnoses.
• Performs critical physical examinations and recognizes common cardiac dysrhythmias, understanding treatment modalities for life-threatening dysrhythmias.
• Understands and anticipates pharmacological treatment of critically ill and injured patients.
• Manages and directs all first responders at the scene of a medical emergency, including EMRs, Police Departments, and EMTs.
• Files standardized reports of patient information and care for use by receiving hospitals and administration.
• Maintains effective communication with physicians to relate patient condition and obtain treatment orders.
• Follows standard written protocols when a physician cannot be contacted.
• Transports ill and injured to medical care institutions and operates emergency vehicles safely under all conditions.
• Performs technical rescues to remove victims from varied terrain and circumstances.
• Cleans and maintains equipment, vehicles, and living quarters.
• Performs minor maintenance on vehicles and maintains records of vehicles, supplies, training, and daily work.

Requirements

• Must possess and maintain Paramedic Licensure, CPR for the Health Care Provider, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
• Good knowledge of street systems, addresses, physical layout of the area, and rescue/emergency medical equipment used in Advanced Life Support.
• Ability to perform technical medical skills with high accuracy and deal effectively with emotional and medical needs of victims.
• Professional and objective approach to patient care, with the ability to learn new rescue and medical concepts.
• Perform limited mechanical work for use, testing, and maintenance of rescue and medical equipment.
• Direct and teach other personnel, follow oral and written instructions, and maintain a professional attitude.
• Drive and operate emergency ambulance units and author reports with narrative and numeric information.
• Maintain high academic and practical knowledge in emergency paramedicine through continuing education.

Physical Requirements

• Operate emergency medical vehicles and move medical equipment.
• Extract injured persons from various situations, including vehicular, industrial, and residential accidents.
• Navigate various terrains, including hilly, steep, rocky, rough, and wet/slippery surfaces.
• Carry or assist in carrying patients from injury sites to transportation (vehicle/helicopter) and attend to them en route to the hospital.
• Perform physical assessments requiring sight, hearing, and communication with patients.
• Wear and maintain Company-issued uniforms and carry a Company-issued pager/radio at all times.
