Paramedic

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) at Northfield Hospital + Clinics provides 24-hour emergency care and transportation to 284 square miles in parts of Rice, Dakota, Scott and Goodhue Counties.

About the role

The Paramedic position provides quality patient care in the out-of-hospital setting, including assessment of illness and/or injury, administering emergency care, and transportation services. Responds within the scope of training under operational guidelines and physician medical control.

Responsibilities

• Respond promptly to requests for service.
• Assess the needs of the sick or injured patient.
• Provide medical care within the paramedic scope of practice per the most current version of the Patient Care Guidelines.
• Work as an integral member of the prehospital care team, which includes dispatchers, bystanders, first responders, other EMS providers, and patient family members.
• Appropriately communicate patient information to receiving facilities and other members of the care team.
• Operate the ambulance per state statutes and organizational policies.
• Provide safe transportation for patients, partners, and passengers.
• Understand, demonstrate, and drive with due regard; follow best practice guidelines for highway incident traffic management.
• Complete patient care reports, required documentation changes, and/or addendums in a timely manner.
• Ensure reports contain the proper content and attachments, are accurate, and relatively free from errors.
• Appropriately complete mandatory reports as required by law and/or policy.
• Demonstrate stewardship for department equipment and inventory; keep vehicles, equipment, and station clean and in good repair.
• Replace items used during patient encounters; complete daily and monthly vehicle inventory and cleaning as directed.
• Maintain other educational and operational inventory as directed; promptly and accurately complete operational reports and summaries.
• Support and provide quality public relations events and interactions.
• Respond to requests and work assignments in a timely manner.
• Actively seek out and complete tasks, assignments, and projects that enhance the value of the department and organization.
• Enthusiastically volunteer and participate as requested in work groups and committees.
• Seek ways to improve relationships with coworkers and peers; assist with training new employees.
• Actively engage in the quality assurance and process improvement programs.

Requirements

• Current registration as a Paramedic with the National Registry of EMT’s
• Current certification as a Paramedic with the MN EMSRB
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification as an instructor or provider (or obtained within 90 days of start date, company paid)
• Current American Heart Association ACLS certification as an instructor or provider (or obtained within 90 days of start date, company paid)
• Current state-issued driver’s license (with acceptable driving history)
• Must pass a post-offer physical screening, including the essential functions that an employee must be able to perform, with or without a reasonable accommodation

Pay

The hourly wage range for this position is $32.45–$45.81. These ranges reflect the base salary.

Schedule

48 hours per two-week pay period (0.6 FTE). Every other weekend and holidays as scheduled.
