About the role

Headquartered in Plymouth, HVA provides EMS to portions of Wayne and Oakland counties, including large-scale special events like Plymouth Art in the Park and USA Hockey events. Paramedics typically work 12 or 24-hour shifts, providing both emergent and non-emergent transport under hospital-approved medical protocols. Additional opportunities include training in critical care transport, community paramedicine, and specialty teams such as HazMat medical response, technical rescue, honor guard, tactical EMS, and bicycle medic teams.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid State of Michigan paramedic license
  • ACLS, CPR, and PHTLS or ITLS certified (PHTLS can be provided upon hire)
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
  • Physically capable of lifting and moving patients, carrying medical equipment
  • Ability to pass a company-sponsored background check, drug screen, and physical
  • Ability to work professionally and cooperatively with a diverse range of people

Responsibilities

  • Maintain high clinical standards in all aspects of care
  • Safely drive and operate ambulances
  • Provide basic life support, including CPR, airway management, suction, oxygen application, bleeding control, splinting, and bandaging
  • Provide advanced life support, including ACLS, airway management, medication administration, and IV administration
  • Provide convalescent care, transporting sick, injured, and convalescent patients to and from medical facilities
  • Proficiently and safely perform patient handling, including stretcher operations, lifting, and loading
  • Treat patients with compassion and respect
  • Interact professionally and courteously with patients, family members, facility staff, and co-workers
