About the Role

The Licensed Paramedic, under the direction of the Registered Nurse, acts as a member of the healthcare team to perform delegated patient care duties in the department assigned. The Paramedic holds shift accountability for providing care to patients in accordance with recognized techniques, standards of practices and hospital policy and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic training course
  • Paramedic experience required
  • Experience in emergency room preferred
  • Current licensed as EMT-P
  • BLS certification
  • ACLS certification
  • PALS certification within 6 months of hire

Preferred: Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Basic and Advanced Trauma Life Support.

Skills

  • Good analytical and observational problem-solving skills
  • Mathematical ability to perform calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies used in the work environment
  • High level of interpersonal and verbal skills, and teamwork commitment to effectively function as a team member
  • Good reading, writing, and comprehension skills to understand and communicate procedures, processes, orders, methods, and standards
  • Competency in reading cardiac monitors and identifying arrhythmias

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly (80-90% of work time) walk and stand
  • Lift soiled linens and move equipment as necessary
  • Transport patients and assist in repositioning, bed to stretcher transferring, or car to wheelchair/stretcher transfer
  • Perform basic activities of daily living and maintenance locomotion requiring lifting (very heavy 60+ pounds), bending, pulling, pushing, standing, and walking
  • Visual acuity and manual dexterity
  • Perform routine clerical functions such as answering telephones, taking messages, and basic retrieval of computer information

Demonstrates willingness to make a meaningful contribution to the work environment as evidenced through behavior and attitude.
