About the role

Restaurant Brands International Inc. RBI owns four iconic quick service restaurant brands – TIM HORTONS®, BURGER KING®, POPEYES®, and FIREHOUSE SUBS®. This role provides legal and operational support to the Restaurant Operations Legal team, reporting directly to the Senior Corporate Counsel. The Paralegal partners closely with attorneys and cross-functional stakeholders to support company-owned restaurant operations across a broad range of legal matters, including licensing and permitting, commercial contracts, litigation management, regulatory compliance, customer disputes, and legal operations.

The successful candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and exercises sound judgment while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. This individual plays an important role in helping the Legal team deliver practical, timely, and business-focused legal support while driving operational excellence and mitigating legal risk.

RBI follows a 5-day workweek. Successful candidates will be expected to work onsite 5 days per week.

Responsibilities

Restaurant Operations Legal Support

  • Partner with the Senior Corporate Counsel to provide legal support for company-owned restaurant operations across multiple legal disciplines.
  • Manage legal workflows related to restaurant licensing, permitting, and regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate responses to governmental agencies and assist in resolving operational legal matters.
  • Research legal and operational issues and prepare summaries and recommendations for attorney review.
  • Maintain legal records, reporting, and documentation to support compliance and operational excellence.

Commercial Contracts

  • Draft, review, and coordinate vendor service agreements, amendments, and other routine commercial contracts.
  • Identify non-standard contractual provisions and escalate legal risks appropriately.
  • Partner with Procurement and business stakeholders throughout the contract review and approval process.
  • Maintain contract tracking tools, legal documentation, and approval workflows.
  • Assist with contract amendments, renewals, disputes, and terminations.

Litigation & Dispute Resolution

  • Support attorneys in managing litigation and pre-litigation matters involving restaurant operations, including construction, real estate, vendor, and customer-related disputes.
  • Coordinate with outside counsel on discovery, subpoenas, document collection, legal holds, and matter management.
  • Assist with outside counsel billing, legal spend reporting, and matter tracking.
  • Maintain litigation files, reports, and legal documentation.

Regulatory & Operational Matters

  • Coordinate responses to subpoenas, law enforcement requests, and surveillance video requests in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Draft legal correspondence, including responses to escalated customer complaints, Better Business Bureau inquiries, trespass notices, and other operational communications.
  • Support investigations into restaurant operational and regulatory issues as needed.

Legal Operations

  • Maintain legal databases, reporting tools, departmental records, invoices, budgets, and legal spend tracking.
  • Process legal invoices, payment requests, licensing fees, and other departmental expenses.
  • Identify opportunities to improve legal processes, workflows, and operational efficiencies.
  • Support special projects and other Legal Department initiatives as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, Paralegal Certificate from an accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of progressive paralegal experience in a corporate legal department and/or law firm.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting commercial contracts, litigation management, regulatory compliance, and operational legal matters.
  • Experience partnering directly with attorneys and cross-functional business stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience managing multiple legal matters simultaneously with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with licensing and permitting programs, legal operations, or contract lifecycle management systems is preferred.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); experience with legal matter management, contract management, e-billing, or permitting software is preferred.
