Paraeducator - Registered Behavior Technician Apprentice: 2026-2027 School Year

About the role

The role involves working as a Para-educator in a BucksIU school age program, alongside specialized training in various areas over a 18-month period. The training sequence is determined by the workload and may not follow the listed order.

Responsibilities

  • Implement educational programs as outlined in students' Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Communicate with families, Bucks IU staff, and others regarding students' needs.
  • Follow behavior support plans provided by the teacher or BCBA.
  • Assist with assessing student performance, identifying remedial training needs, and reporting these to the teacher.
  • Escort students to lunch, gym, music classroom, and auditorium; supervise and support during eating activities, gym, outdoor recess, and field trips.
  • Support students in inclusive regular education classes, assist with modifications as directed by teachers/supervisors, and oversee students during school bus transportation.
  • Attend required training sessions, in-service workshops, and update skills as directed by the supervisor/teacher.
  • Pass the Behavior Analysis Certification Board RBT Credential Training, Competency Assessment, and RBT Credentialing Exam.
  • Model behavior analytic strategies for other staff members.
  • Provide support in activities of daily living and personal care skills.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as recording data, setting up equipment, and preparing materials for instruction.
  • Participate in supervision from the BCBA and follow recommendations and guidance provided.
  • Demonstrate satisfactory implementation of RBT required competencies.
  • Participate in routine supervision as per the BACB and track supervision hours in the Bucks IU designated system.
  • Achieve annual renewal fees for certification.
  • Assist with creating and delivering presentations related to behavior analytic content and procedures.
  • Collect A-B-C data to assist with functional assessments of students.
  • Provide in-the-moment guidance and feedback regarding behavior analytic principles.
  • Consult regularly with the supervising BCBA for staff guidance and feedback.

Requirements

To qualify, candidates must meet the designation of a Bucks IU “Highly Qualified” Instructional Assistant by demonstrating evidence of at least one of the following: an Associate or bachelor’s Degree, at least 48 college/university credits, a high school diploma or equivalency, and successfully passing a local assessment. Additionally, applicants must have worked Extended School Year through the Bucks County IU.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess a strong foundation in child development, education, psychology/human behavior, and be prepared to engage in specialized training in crisis prevention and intervention, CPR/first aid, and behavior analysis. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is preferred.

Skills

Essential skills include problem-solving, technical proficiency, interpersonal communication, oral and written communication, and supervision. Knowledge of behavior analysis and crisis intervention techniques is crucial.

Schedule

This is a full-time, 185-day calendar position with days and hours of work dependent on the location assignment and program needs. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required.
