Paraeducator - ISS (In School Suspension)

Preferred Minimum Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent
• Associates Degree or 48 semester hours
• ACT certified
• Obtain First Aid/CPR training
• Ability to lift 50 pounds
• Ability and willingness to take directions
• Ability and willingness to meet the needs of students
• Excellent references including attendance and punctuality

Job Goals

To provide support services to the regular education teacher to meet the educational needs of students.

Essential Job Functions

• To assist the teacher with the social and education needs of the student
• Performs non-teaching tasks under the direct supervision of the teacher
• Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teacher

Performance Responsibilities

• To assist teacher in working with individual students, small groups of students, or whole class to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher
• Perform general clerical duties such as filing student records, entering student data into computer, grading student papers, recording grades, etc.
• Be available to attend and participate in parent/teacher conferences, child studies, annual reviews, etc.
• Serve as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the teacher
• Foster a relationship with students based upon warmth, concern, mutual respect, and shared excitement in learning

Salary

Paraeducators are on the Classified Salary Schedule. FFC8 allows new hires to bring in up to 15 years of previous experience in similar school type settings. Please understand that new hires tend to start out at the lower end of the salary range.
