About the Role

The Paraeducator III – Special Education (Physical Disabilities) assists (under direct supervision) in the supervision and instruction of special education students, supports teachers with the educational and physical needs of students, and provides specialized health care. This position also supports District extended year school programs. Incumbents may perform any combination of the essential functions listed below and may assist students with daily physical and behavioral needs, including but not limited to:

  • Diapering
  • Toileting including wiping, cleaning up of bodily fluids, and female needs assistance
  • G-tube feeding
  • Hand feeding
  • Suctioning
  • Catheterization
  • Use of specialized equipment, lifts, transfers, and repositioning
  • Emergency medication administration
  • Ostomy care
  • Tracheotomy suctioning (3 inches)
  • Seizure care
  • Other procedures necessary to enable a student to attend school as prescribed by a physician
  • Implementation of Intensive Behavior Intervention Programs for identified special education students

This position is distinguished from Paraeducator I and II by its focus on assisting students in special programs with identified disabilities requiring daily physical and behavioral support.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written forms

  • Read, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and policies
  • Utilize a variety of instructional media and office machines

Requirements

  • One year of paid or volunteer experience working with children identified with unique needs
  • First Aid/CPR certification (required)
  • Training and experience in Intensive Behavior Instruction or Discrete Trial training (preferred)

Pay

Pay Range: $21.459 - $28.200 per hour. Maximum achieved in 8 annual steps. District prorated benefits package included.

Schedule

  • 6.5 hours per day, 205 days per year
  • Part-time position
  • Shift: 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Additional Information

Offer of employment is conditional pending pre-employment physical, fingerprints, negative drug screen, and TB test.

Current CSEA employees are subject to Article 13 language changes for positions posted after October 11, 2024. Unit members seeking a voluntary lateral transfer must be permanent employees for at least two years prior to the date of the posted vacancy and provide a letter of recommendation from their current supervisor dated within six months of the posting. Voluntary lateral transfers may be denied based on poor job performance, unjustified excessive absenteeism, or disciplinary actions within one year prior to the posted vacancy.
