About the Role
The Paraeducator II - Special Education (Physical Disabilities) assists (under direct supervision) in the supervision and instruction of special education students, relieves teachers of routine clerical tasks, and provides for special health care needs. This role supports students in special programs, including special day and resource programs for students with identified mental, emotional, physical, or learning handicaps.
This is an itinerant position covering special education paraeducator needs at various sites throughout the district as notified by Smart Find Express or the Special Education Department.
Schedule
- 3 hours per day, 182 days per year
- Part-time, shift options: 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. or 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Pay
- Pay Range: $18.882 - $24.852 per hour (Range 15)
- Maximum salary achieved over 8 annual steps

Responsibilities
- Assist certificated teachers in classroom operations, including teaching academic skills to students with mental, emotional, physical, or learning disabilities.
- Supervise students to maintain an effective learning environment, noting behavioral issues and assisting with discipline.
- Prepare instructional materials and equipment; perform clerical tasks such as typing, copying, and gathering resources.
- Provide feedback to teaching staff and administrators on student progress through observation and record-keeping.
- Administer and correct tests, assignments, and homework.
- Maintain informational and operational records, track student progress, and report findings.
- Monitor and assist students using equipment such as computers, cassette recorders, and audio-visual media.
- Oversee students during classroom activities, on campus, in the library, and on field trips.
- Operate instructional media, office machines, and equipment.
- Tutor students individually or in small groups to reinforce learning activities.
- Assist in self-contained instructional settings and track progress for individual students in core academic subjects.
- Support other personnel as needed to complete work activities.
- Participate in meetings to share information and improve skills/knowledge.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior job-related experience (paid or volunteer) with school-age children.
- Skills in basic clerical functions, arithmetic, operating office equipment, and using English in written and verbal form with correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Ability to provide for the special health care needs of students.
- Knowledge of child development principles, instructional processes, public education goals, and student testing procedures.
- Abilities to understand and address students with special needs, follow oral and written instructions, maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines, and interpret policies.
- Significant physical abilities including stooping, crouching, reaching, handling, talking, hearing, and visual acuity (near/far, depth perception, accommodation, field of vision).
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, negative pre-employment drug screen, and negative TB test results.
- Pass the District’s adopted Proficiency Examination with a satisfactory score.
- First Aid and CPR certificates may be required.
