ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Aid in small group and individual pupil instruction.
- Assist students with instruction under the direction of the special education teacher.
- Assist teacher in maintaining discipline.
- Assist teacher with instructional activities.
- Escort students from room to room.
- Toileting students is sometimes required.
- Involves work with both special education and regular students.
- Aid in the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Supervise students during recess and lunch.
- Aid in classroom assignments.
- Copy materials for instructional purposes.
- Aid teaching staff in filing material and preparing paperwork.
- Alert teachers to problems observed.
- Might require supporting with toileting of students.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree.
- Two years of college credit OR hold an associate's (or higher) degree; OR successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment which includes content knowledge in mathematics, reading and writing and an understanding of how to assist in the instruction of these topics (Parapro Assessment).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Regularly required to sit, talk or hear.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Must be able to push items of fifty (50) pounds, such as pushing children on a bike or wheelchair or moving/rearranging furniture.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The noise level in the work environment is typical of classrooms having school children and is a standard acceptable level for this environment.
- This employee will work throughout the school building, on school grounds and occasionally off campus.
- The paraprofessional is responsible for the safety and well being of students in his/her charge.
COMPENSATION
Salary: Range $22.12 - $25.18 (Per contractual agreement BPS Contracts)
SCHEDULE
Work Hours: 6.5 hours per day (7:45am to 2:45pm)
