About the role

Assist in small group and individual pupil instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with instruction under the direction of the special education teacher.
  • Assist teacher in maintaining discipline.
  • Assist teacher with instructional activities.
  • Escort students from room to room.
  • Toileting students is required.
  • Involves work with both special education and regular students.
  • Assist teaching staff in the implementation of IEP.
  • Supervise students while they are at recess and lunch.
  • Assist students with classroom assignments.
  • Copy materials for instructional purposes.
  • Assist teacher in filing material and preparing all necessary paperwork.
  • Alert teachers to problems that may be observed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree.
  • Two years of college credit OR hold an associate's (or higher) degree; OR successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment which assesses content knowledge in mathematics, reading and writing and an understanding of how to assist in the instruction of these topics (Parapro Assessment).
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
  • Basic knowledge and experience with job related computer hardware and software applications.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit, and talk or hear.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Must be able to push items of fifty (50) pounds, such as pushing children on a bike or wheelchair or moving/rearranging furniture.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds; when doing heavier lifting, assistance should be used.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision.

Work Environment

  • The noise level is typical of classrooms having school children and is a standard acceptable level for this environment.
  • Work throughout the school building, on school grounds and occasionally off campus.
  • Responsible for the safety and well being of students in his/her charge.

Pay

Salary range: $22.12–$25.18 per hour

Schedule

6.5 hours per day (8:00 am to 2:30 pm)
Start date: August 27, 2026
