About the role
The Louisiana Special School District is seeking a PARAEDUCATOR to support the provision of Special Education Services. This position is based at the Central Louisiana Supports & Services Center in Alexandria, LA.
Responsibilities
- Assists with the teaching, learning, and training activities for students.
- Assists teachers with duplicating, collecting, and disseminating materials for activities.
- Assists with transportation of students to and from scheduled school activities.
- Assists with implementing classroom activities at the discretion of the teacher.
- Maintains classroom organization and prepares instructional materials.
- Works with large or small groups as directed by the teacher.
- Monitors student behavior and provides supervision in the classroom.
- Assists with personal hygiene and feeding when necessary.
- Responds to emergency situations such as student restraint, CPR, and first aid.
- Accurately completes district and state reporting forms.
- Enters information electronically with minimal audit findings.
- Maintains organized and appropriate records.
- Communicates effectively with staff.
- Attends faculty, facility, and other meetings as required.
- Affixes to assist in student activities, special projects, and school events.
Requirements
- At least 21 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Passed the Educational Testing Service (ETS) Para-Pro Assessment with a score of 450, or completed two years of full-time study from an approved institution, or earned an Associate of Science or Associate of Applied Science degree.
Qualifications
- Completed 18 hours of general education requirements, including English Composition (3), English/Reading (6), and Mathematics (9).
- Completed up to 12 hours of developmental (remedial) courses.
