About the role

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individual or small groups of severely handicapped students who may have extreme behavioral issues in a classroom. Provide direct instruction, monitor and report student progress regarding behavior and performance, and assist students in developing various self-help, behavior, social, and community skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist a certificated teacher with instruction for individual or small groups of students.
  • Provide direct instruction to students with severe disabilities and behavioral challenges.
  • Monitor and report student progress in behavior and academic performance.
  • Support students in developing self-help, behavior, social, and community skills.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school.
  • At least two years of experience (paid or voluntary) working with children or individuals with disabilities.
  • One of the following:
    • Associate’s degree or higher,
    • At least 48 college semester units, or
    • Passing the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) exam.
  • Possession of one of the following certificates:
    • SCOE Para Proficiency certificate,
    • NCLB/ESSA certificate,
    • CBEST, or
    • Transcripts showing a minimum of 48 college units or the date an AA degree or higher was awarded.
  • Proof of required certificate must be attached to the application.

Pay

Pay range: $28.49 – $35.08 per hour. Initial placement is restricted to a maximum of Step 2 ($30.10/hour).

Schedule

185 days per year, 5 days per week, 6 hours per day (8:35 a.m. – 3:05 p.m.). Part-time position.

Benefits

A benefit entitlement for health, dental, and vision coverage is available for positions that are at least 4 hours per day. The amount of the entitlement is based on the number of hours worked per day.

John F. Kennedy School – Modesto, CA. Program: Severely Handicapped (Grades: 12 – Transition), Special Education.
