About the role
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individual or small groups of severely handicapped students in a classroom. Monitor and report student progress regarding behavior and performance. Assist students in developing various self-help, social, and community skills.

Requirements
- Must be ESSA compliant by having one of the following:
- Associate’s degree
- Completion of a minimum of 48 units at an institution of higher education (transcripts required)
- Paraprofessional Proficiency Certificate: proof of passing a locally approved assessment that measures the ability to assist in instruction (e.g., CBEST, ParaPRO, or a District-administered NCLB/ESSA Paraprofessional proficiency exam)
- Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and some experience working with children or individuals with disabilities
- Must be at least 18 years of age
Applicants who meet the minimum requirements but do not attach a Paraprofessional Proficiency Certificate or equivalent will receive an email invitation to attend a testing session with SCOE.

The following will be required of the selected applicant prior to employment:

Schedule
- 192 paid days, 181 workdays per year
- 5 days per week
- 6 hours per day (8:00 AM – 2:30 PM)
Pay
Pay dependent on experience (Range 7, CSEA Classified Regular Salary Schedule). Maximum of Step 3 ($24.95/hour) for external applicants.
Benefits
A benefit entitlement for health, dental, and vision coverage is available for positions that are at least 4 hours per day. The amount of the entitlement is based on the number of hours worked per day.
